*2011 HEAD SHOT RULE CHANGE*
The 2011 Hockey Canada AGM has addressed the issue of Head Contact and continued commitment to zero tolerance measures in this area, and has implemented Rule Changes which will come into effect immediately for the 2011-2012 season. *YSEHA MAJOR MIDGET TRYOUTS*
The York Simcoe Express Hockey Association is pleased to announce that tryouts for the 2011/2012 AAA Major Midget team will take place between 7:30 - 9:00pm on September 6,8,9 and 11 at the Aurora Recreation Complex on Wellington St. In order to speed up the registration process at the rink, all players and goalies should complete the player registration form (Click here to download). HURRICANES 'MINOR HOCKEY DAYS'
The Newmarket Hurricanes have set aside 5 Sunday games as Minor Hockey "Free Pass" dates. Games start at 2:30 on Sept 25, Oct 30, Nov 27, Dec 4 and Dec 18 All that a player needs to do is wear his/her minor hockey jersey. *YSEHA ALUMNI DRAFTED TO NHL*
Congratulations to York Simcoe Express alumni Ryan Murphy (Kitchener Rangers) and Daniel Catenacci (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds) on recently being selected at the 2011 NHL Draft in Minnesota by NHL clubs. Ryan was drafted 12th by the Carolina Hurricanes and Daniel 77th to the Buffalo Sabres. Both were a big part of the very successful 1993 YSE group, which won many OMHA Championships and tournaments. *YSEHA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING UPDATE*
The Annual General Meeting was held on May 25th, 2011. The board would like to congratulate the incoming board members for the 2011 and 2012 seasons effective June 1st: Kim Fennell – President Mercedes Ohayon – Treasurer Martin Harding – Registrar Nancy Catenacci – Equipment Director Mike Kensit – Fundraising Director Further, a warm welcome to Jane Weir who has accepted the position of Secretary, to Dave Sedore who has accepted the position of Ice Director, and to Bill Chick who has accepted the position of Area Rep for Aurora. Thank you to Dan Kuzmyk (President) and Scott Thomas (Registrar) for their years of service with York Simcoe Express Hockey Association. Both Dan and Scott have contributed greatly to the association and have set up the new board for great success. Thank you Dan and Scott for your tireless efforts. From a center perspective, the YSEHA are working with the centers to recruit area representatives for Bradford, Newmarket, and East Gwillimbury. *ATOM TEAM WINS 2011 INTERNATIONAL SILVER STICK TOURNAMENT*
Congratulations to YSE Atom Team who won the 2011 International Silver Stick Tournament for the second year in a row. The tournament was held in Sarnia , Ontario with 16 of the top North American teams in the AAA division. The Team won all 5 of their games beating Mississauga Rebels in the finals 3 to 2 .: January 24, 2011
